||Elimination of Lithium from Aluminium Electrolyte by Acid Leaching Method

An acidic leaching process was studied for the elimination of lithium from aluminium electrolyte. The removal of lithium from aluminium electrolyte (the molar ratio of NaF:AlF3 was 3) was investigated via leaching by deionized water and HNO3, studied the influences of acid concentration, time, liquid-to-solid (L/S) ratio and temperature on the leaching efficiency. The results were shown that HNO3 was the more suitable between deionized water and HNO3 for the leaching of lithium. Moreover, the collected data demonstrated that optimum efficiency of the leaching process, which reached 93.21%, was achieved under leaching conditions with concentration of 14mol/L HNO3, for 120 min, L/S ratio of 12.5 cm3•g−1 and at 80 °C. The results of XRD analysis were shown that lithium from aluminium electrolyte was dissolved in the solution and LiNO3 was given after the acidic leaching.
