||LL-67: Densification Behavior and Dielectric Properties of Gel Cast Barium Zinc Tantalate Ceramics

Ba(Zn<sub>1/3</sub>Ta<sub>2/3</sub>)O<sub>3</sub> (BZT) ceramics exhibit good microwave dielectric properties and hence considered as an alternative material for RF window application in fusion reactor. For applications such as microwave window sections for fusion reactor, mechanically robust BZT ceramics with high density and uniform microstructure is required. In the present study, the effect of gel casting on densification and dielectric properties of BZT has been investigated. Slurry with 80 wt.% of solid loading has been characterized for rheological properties and storage modulus values for different percentages of monomer and cross-linker. Initiator concentration is varied to derive optimum gelation time. The slurries were cast in bulk shapes and gelated at a temperature of 80°C. Densification behaviour, microstructure and dielectric properties of gel cast samples were compared with samples consolidated by uniaxial compaction.
