||Effect of Slag Properties and Alloy Quality on Inclusions in Tire Cord Steels

Steel samples and slag samples were taken at the process of LF refining for the production of tire cord steels. The effects of basicity and composition of the slag and the quality of alloys on the total oxygen and inclusions in steel were investigated through thermodynamic calculation an industrial trials. The total oxygen was controlled below 15 ppm. Many inclusions were Al2O3-MgO-CaO-SiO2-MnO ones with high melting temperature before optimizing slags and alloys. After optimization, inclusions were modified into SiO2-MnO-CaO with low melting temperature.
