Abstract Scope |
In this paper, microstructure and wear behavior of Al7068 alloy reinforced with hybrid of GNPs+SiC composites produced by ball milling, stir casting and ultrasonic waves have been investigated. The effect of hybrid of SiC+GNPs with a varying weight fraction (0.5GNPs-1SiC, 0.5GNPs-3SiC, 1GNPs-3SiC wt.%) on microstructure and wear behavior is studied. In addition to this the developed nanocomposites were subjected to the standard T6 heat treatment conditions. Similar behavior was observed in case of grain size, where grain refinement of AA7068 matrix by GNPs+SiC reached saturation point for 0.5GNPs-3SiC wt.%. Finally, the wear resistance of the AA7068 alloy and its nanocomposite with 0.5 wt.% GNPs and 3 wt.% SiC in T6 conditions and extrusion process was significantly higher than that of as cast conditions. The obtained results indicate that GNPs (up to 0.5 wt.%) and SiC (up to 3 wt.%) are effective in improving the wear resistance of AA7068 metal matrix. |
