||The Research and Trial of the Aluminum Electrolysis Cells with Current Flowing Out from the Bottom

The horizontal current in the metal pad is one of the important factors influencing the hydromagnetic stability in an aluminium electrolysis cell. The cathode structure with current flowing out of the cell from the bottom can almost eliminate the horizontal current and improve the cell stability. The anode to cathode distance can be reduced and the energy consumption is hence reduced. The present paper describes the computer simulation result of the cathode structure with current out from the bottom, the thermal balance and the hydromagnetic stability. The trial result of two 220kA cells with current out from the bottom is also introduced.
