LiMCA is the industry standard for online monitoring of non-metallic inclusion in liquid Aluminium and used in cast houses worldwide for quality inspection and process optimization. Based on the Coulter-Counter principle LiMCA is capable to detect inclusions in the size range of 20-300 Ám.
At the TMS Annual meeting 2015 a new version of the LiMCA technology, the LiMCA III was introduced to the Aluminium industry. LiMCA III should provide the same monitoring capabilities as LiMCA II with improved user friendliness. One major modification of the inclusion monitoring principle is the utilization of AC instead of DC current to minimize electromagnetic interference.
This paper reports on user experience regarding the LiMCA III operation at TRIMET Aluminium SE and Hydro Aluminium and joint studies to validate the LiMCA III monitoring sensitivity in side-by-side tests with LiMCA II.
