Presentation Title A-18: High Velocity Hybrid Thermal Spray Systems for 3-D Coatings

Abstract Scope A hybrid High Velocity thermal spray process significantly increases the life of tungsten carbide coatings sprayed on 3-D parts. This hybrid process is demonstrating wear rates less than half of the wear rates demonstrated by the typical HVOF process. In addition, this process can achieve a spray rate of 33+ kg/hour (73+ lbs./hour) with 60% DE. A 0.25 mm (0.001”) thick 1 mē (11 ft2) WCCoCr coating can be sprayed in just 10 minutes! The paper describes the process and presents field data on this hybrid process coating.
