||A New Centimeter–diameter LaCePrCoAl High Entropy Bulk Metallic Glass

Based on La60Co20Al20 ternay glass with the critical size of 5 mm, a series of quinary high entropy bulk metallic glass (HE-BMG) have been successfully prepared by copper mold casing, including La20Ce20Pr20Co20Al20 with a critical diameter (Dc) of 12 mm, La20Ce20Nd20Co20Al20 with a critical diameter of 4 mm, and La20Ce20Pr20Co20Al20 with the critical diameter of 5 mm. These novel HE-BMGs possess large supercooled liquid region (SLR) and good thermal stability. In particular, SLR of La20Ce20Pr20Co20Al20 is as large as 89 K. In addition, the crystallization and mechanical behavior of BMG and HE-BMG were also investigated. Successful formation of La20Ce20Pr20Co20Al20, La20Ce20Nd20Co20Al20, and La20Ce20Pr20Co20Al20 HE-BMGs provides good model materials for studying the fundamental issues both of high entropy alloys and bulk metallic glasses.
