||Electrochemical Characterization of Al-Li-Cu-Mg Alloys

The aluminum-lithium alloys were developed with the objective of obtaining a line of products that allowed, mainly, to reduce the weight in structural elements of planes; which was later joined by the aerospace industry. They has been recovered - among others - by the aeronautical industry due to its special characteristics.
In the present research, aluminum-lithium alloys were directionally solidified under different conditions of temperature gradients and cooling rates. The macro and microstructures were observed and measured. To determine the susceptibility to corrosion, working electrodes were prepared with different sizes of grain structures and cyclic potentiodynamic polarization measurements were conducted, as well as assays, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using solution of 3% NaCl at room temperature.
