||Application of Limited Solubility Model for Predicting Physicochemical Properties in Ternary Systems with Miscibility Gap

Most of the metallurgical melts may have a miscibility gap in the concerned temperature range. In these cases, large errors will be introduced using traditional geometric models to calculate the physicochemical properties. We have proposed a new model —limited solubility model for calculations of this kind of systems. Comparisons of the physicochemical properties in ternary systems with limited homogenous region, such as density, viscosity and surface tension calculated by traditional geometric models with limited solubility model show that the predicted values by limited solubility model agree best with the experimental data. For example, in the BaO-FeO-Fe2O3 ternary system , the relative error between the experimental density and the predicted values calculated by limited solubility model is as low as -0.12%, while the value predicted by Muggianu model is as high as 4.97% .
