In this presentation, the synthesis of discontinuously-reinforced metal matrix composites using the technique of spray atomization and co-deposition will be presented sad discussed. The presentation will attempt to provide a lucid overview of the salient features of the innovative technique of spray atomization and deposition. An attempt will be made to highlight the key attributes specific to the processing technique with specific reference to pre-mixed metal matrix composites. The key factors and viable mechanisms governing incorporation of the reinforcing phase during co-deposition will also be presented and lucidly discussed. The microstructure of few composites synthesized by this technique and their key and observable features will be highlighted considering the conjoint and mutually interactive influences of processing variables and constituents of the metal-matrix composite.
