||LL-46: Research of the Extraction of Valuable Metals from Nickel Laterite by the Ammonium Sulfate Roasting-Water Leaching Process

To overcome these shortages of high energy consumption and serious equipment corrosion in sulphating roasting process, the ammonium sulfate roasting-water leaching process was applied in this paper. The research of mechanism for ammonium sulfate roasting process by the analysis of XRD and SEM-EDS showed that most mineral phases in roasted products were (NH4)3Fe(SO4)3, (NH4)2Mg2(SO4)3, Fe2O3, and SiO2. And valuable metals existed in these sulfate minerals which could be leached into the aqueous phase by hot water. The iron mainly existed in iron oxide minerals which were water-insoluble. The conditions of the ammonium sulfate roasting-water leaching process, such as roasting temperature, roasting time and leaching temperature, were researched comprehensively. The results indicated that the leaching rate of Ni, Co, Mn and Fe could be 90.8%, 85.41%, 86.74% and 9.98% respectively at the optimum conditions.
