Alloys strengthened with the L12 Co3(Al, W) intermetallic phase provide a potential pathway for development of a new class of load-bearing two-phase cobalt-base high temperature alloys. The complementary role of experiments, ab-initio models, computational thermodynamics, high throughput approaches and mechanical property models in design of these multicomponent systems is considered. Integration of these tools has guided exploration of the higher dimensional compositional space toward higher strength, oxidation resistant compositions. Needs and opportunities for further acceleration of the design process for new materials will be discussed.
