||Fundamental Properties of PM Ti Materials with Nitrogen Solid-solution and TiN Particle Dispersion

Two types of pure titanium materials were fabricated from the elemental mixture of Ti powder and TiN particles. One was by solid-solution of nitrogen originated from TiN, and another was Ti composites with TiN dispersoids. Microstructural evolution, mechanical testing and tribology testing were carried out in both PM Ti materials. It was concluded that nitrogen solid-solution was more effective for improvement of materials properties of pure Ti materials. In particular, the seizure phenomenon of pure Ti under dry sliding condition was completely obstructed by uniformly hardening on the materials surface due to solid-solution.
