||Micro-arc Oxide Film of Aluminum Coating Pre-sprayed on a Magnesium Alloy

Using the micro-arc oxidation（MAO）in silicate electrolyte, ceramic film was formed on pure Al coating sprayed on AZ31 magnesium alloy. The surface and cross-section morphologies，distribution of elements，phase composition，microhardness，bonding strength and corrosion resistance of the film were investigated respectively. The results show that the MAO film is uniform and compact, mainly composed of α-Al2O3、γ-Al2O3 and 3Al2O3•2SiO2.The ceramic film adheres well to the Al coating and its average hardness reaches 1197 HV. The results of polarization curves in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution show that such a technology can obviously improve the corrosion resistance of AZ31 magnesium alloy.
