Cu and its alloys are widely used in industry. However, the mechanical properties of Cu materials have reached a certain limit if the conductivity is to be maintained at a high level. Here we report super copper with superior strength and Young’s modulus were fabricated by a scalable two-step method: Cu micro powders with self-dispersed WC nanoparticles were first fabricated by molten salt assisted self-incorporation of nanoparticles and then bulk nanocomposite samples were obtained by melting the powders under pressure. The super copper with 40 vol.% self-dispersed WC nanoparticles exhibits high hardness, a yield strength over 1 GPa and a Young’s modulus of about 290 GPa.
