Abstract Scope Fatigue experiments on Allvac 718 Plus (IN718+) were conducted to study the effects of advanced surface treatments like Ultrasonic Nano-crystal Surface Modification (UNSM) and Laser Shock Peening (LSP) on the fatigue behavior on IN718+ superalloy at room and elevated temperature of 650 ̊C. Stress controlled uniaxial fatigue tests were conducted on the heat treated, UNSM, and LSP treated samples to determine the improvement in fatigue life through the stress-life (S-N) curves. The effects of UNSM and LSP on residual stresses, microstructure changes and hardness through the depth were investigated. In addition, changes in the microstructure after LSP, UNSM and fatigue testing were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Back-Scatter Diffraction (EBSD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Fracture modes and mechanisms were also characterized by SEM. The near surface compressive residual stresses, microstructure and hardening induced by UNSM and LSP effects on improvement in fatigue life will be discussed.
