Abstract Scope |
The present reseach proposes the production of artificial stone to be used in the construction industry using white granite waste and vegetable polyurethane, a biodegradable resin derived from castor oil. The material is technologically and economically viable, and it also becomes a sustainable alternative, reducing the damage caused by waste and improperly discarded polymers in the environment. The artificial stone plates were produced based on the vacuum compression process and subsequently characterized. The values obtained in the three-point bending and compression tests demonstrated the good strength of the material, as well as its values of density, apparent porosity and water absorption below the recommended values, evidencing the good adhesion of the particles in the polyurethane matrix verified by microscopy scanning electronics. |
