Abstract Scope Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with in situ ion beam irradiation offers a unique opportunity to test the microstructural response of materials in situ to extreme conditions of irradiation, temperature, stress, and corrosion, making important contribution to the fundamental understanding of radiation effects, design and development of advanced radiation-resistant new materials, and providing invaluable data for validating multi-scale materials models. This presentation will provide an overview of recent research on advanced nuclear structural and cladding materials, nuclear fuels, and wasteforms, and discuss the new capability of dual ion-beam irradiation for studies of combined effects of heavy-ion induced cascade displacement damage and helium implantation being developed at Argonne’s IVEM-Tandem Facility.
