||PP-13: Effects of Microstructure and Mechnical Properties of High Strength Alumiunm Alloy Billet & Slab on Low Frequency Electromagnetic Casting

In general, as a high strength aluminum alloy has high alloying elements, it makes more difficult to cast the billet and slab without casting cracks and segregations using conventional methods. Low frequency electromagnetic casting was applied to improve the quality of high strength billet and slab due to the application of electromagnetic field in the melts. This is why they have a uniform distribution, a decreased temperature gradient and a reduced pool depth. In this study, we are concerned with effects of microstructure and mechanical properties of high strength aluminum alloy billet & slab on low frequency electromagnetic casting. Also, through the numerical computer simulation, we will discuss the prediction of the solidification and crack behavior during continuous casting.
