The work presented here investigates the effects of local surface temperature behavior on the microstructure and indentation hardness properties of the RenÚ 80 samples fabricated using the scanning laser epitaxy (SLE) process. Characterizations of the as-deposited samples with no post-processing are performed using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Vicker's microhardness measurements. Local differences are observed in the γ’ and MC carbide effective size distributions. Results are presented along with a discussion on the next phase of analysis and modeling of microstructure changes as a function of the process-parameters and their correlation with local hardness properties.
