||O-21: Fatigue Strength Characteristics of Tandem Gas Metal Arc Welding in Automotive Chassis Parts

Using a, the effects of bead shape on the fatigue strength was examined using tandem gas metal arc welding process The load cycle condition was 15 Hz and load conditions were from 10% to 60% of the tensile strength of the base material, and an S-N curve was obtained. From the test results, the permanent fatigue strength of the welded part was 122 MPa. the geometry of weld toe, microstructure, and hardness of the welds affected importantly on fatigue life. Especially, the stress concentration in the toe part was reduced under applied repeated loads because of the larger weld toe angle and toe radius.
