The first principles deformation pathway analysis [1] reveals that one of the possible origin of the non-Schmid behavior of {-1011} deformation twinning systems. Among the possible twinning deformation pathway of {-1011} deformation twinning in the systems, such as 4-layer or 2-layer zonal twinning deformation pathway, and so on, we found that the 2-layer zonal twinning deformation pathway[2] is strongly affected by not only the resolved shear stress component in the shearing direction <10-12>(-1011), but also in its normal direction <1-210>(-1011). This is because the computed 2-layer zonal twinning deformation pathway contains the strain component in <1-210>(-1011). The deformation pathway analysis may give a comprehensive understanding of the origin of non-Schmid behaviors in HCP materials. [1] A.
