||Quality Assessment for Clean Steel of Billet with Mold Electromagnetic Stirring

Most inclusions have negative effect on the quality of various materials. This project mainly focuses on the observation and characterization of non-metallic inclusions in plain high strength low alloy steels, and specifically is devoted to the homogenization of molten steel within the copper mold of continuous casters, as the primary purpose of this project is to discover the optimum operation parameters for Electro-Magnetic Stirring(EMS) surrounding the copper mold. In this project, the size, shape, composition, and morphology of the inclusions in the high strength low alloy steel samples were studied. Image analysis is also performed to determine the area fraction of the inclusions found. As the quantitative assessment is conducted, general relations regarding the EMS regulation versus steel cleanliness are to be achieved, by which it able to determine the validity of the original quality predictions, which is theoretically based on the results of mold simulations.
