Presentation Title Improving Electrochemical Performance of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 by MnO2 Top Coat

Abstract Scope MnO2 coated LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 film has been prepared and investigated as long-life cathode materials for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. To compare its electrochemical performance a bare LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 film has been also fabricated. The morphological and structural properties of the films are observed via scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. The electrochemical (CV and EIS) and the galvanostatic test results show that MnO2 film on top of the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 improves physical and mechanical properties of the electrode. MnO2 presence not only works as a buffer to prevent the Jahn-Teller effect and the dissociation of Mn ions from the electrode to the electrolyte, but also work as a “glue” to hold the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 particles together in cycling.
