||Technology Research on Decreasing the Aluminum Surface Waves and Reducing the Cathode Voltage Drop in Aluminum Electrolysis Cells

The effect of cathode carbon block materials and the materials, size and assembly ways of cathode steel bar on horizontal current and cathode voltage drop was studied using simulation calculation and industrial cells tests. The results indicate that it can effectively reduce the aluminum surface waves and the cathode voltage drop through comprehensive optimization of cathode carbon block and steel bar materials, reasonable design of cathode steel bar size and optimizing steel bar assembly ways. The cell voltage for the 350 kA test cells was determined at a anode current density of 0.73 A/cm2. It ranges from 3.82 to 3.85 mV and the fluctuation range is about 6-8 mV. Starting after 180 days, the cathode voltage drop was about 190-220 mV. It realized the cells operated at low voltage and high current efficiency for aluminum electrolysis production.
