The application of thermoelectric technology in the industrial waste heat recovery sector is gaining attention due to the tremendous economic and environmental benefits. The key to more widespread acceptance of thermoelectrics is the development of materials for thermal energy conversion especially using less expensive, more earth abundant materials, non-toxic to meet the environmental regulations that are capable of higher conversion efficiency. In addition, technologically advantageous fabrication techniques such as powder techniques, sintering and hot-pressing are preferable to be used for the development of thermoelectric materials.
Silicide compounds is an advantageous choice, because their high thermoelectric performance, the ample availability of their elements in nature and their non-toxicity that is consistent with the priority for friendly technology to the environment and the human. In this presentation, a review of our recent findings on our best Mg2(Si,Sn,Ge) materials will be presented with emphasis on the fabrication process.
