Abstract Scope Multiphase flow in porous media is an important topic of research for areas such as fuel cells, batteries, hydrology, and oil recovery, among others. To gain improved insight into the multiphase interactions occurring in porous media a system for simultaneous neutron and x-ray imaging has been developed at NIST. This system orients an x-ray source 90 to a neutron beam to facilitate simultaneous tomography with both imaging systems. The neutrons will provide detailed information on the fluid phase while the x-rays will provide detailed information on the solid phase thus providing complimentary data. Simultaneous imaging will ensure the sample remains in an identical state between imaging modes which is important for systems with boundaries that can move depending on test conditions. This presentation will focus on the implementation and data analysis of combined neutron and x-ray tomography and the prospects of future multi-modal imaging capabilities at NIST.
