Abstract Scope New synthetic raw materials, based on Calcium hexaluminate (CA6), a highly refractory mineral have proved advantageous in various applications such as steel (in reheating furnaces and burner cover linings), in the petrochemical and chemical industry, in ceramic kilns (lining and kiln cars), and in the glass industry. This paper presents a brief overview of the special characteristics of calcium hexaluminate in various corrosive environments and will provide refractory designers more options to innovative refractory solutions.
