||Modeling on Macrosegregation in Molten Steel with a Barrel Sampler

In the present work, a three-dimensional model for the prediction of macrosegregation during the steel solidification process was performed using the commercial software ProCAST. The macrosegregation and shrinkage cavity of a barrel sample of the low carbon micro-alloyed steel was calculated, coupling the melt convection, the heat transfer, and the species transport. The model has been validated by the detected results. Then the fluid flow, temperature, solid fraction, shrinkage cavity and macrosegregation during the cooling and solidification process of the steel were predicted. It is demonstrated that the model can be used to express the overall macrosegregation in the barrel sampler. There is macrosegregation occurred in the axial direction, affecting the inclusions distribution. The results show that the detection at 10-15mm from the bottom of the ingot can better reflect the elements and the inclusions distribution.
