| Abstract Scope |
Grain boundary energies are, among other things, a function of misorientation. Such misorientation-energy functions typically have cusps at particular misorientations. It is demonstrated that such functions possess instabilities with respect to the creation of an additional misorientation. Using the derived geometrical data on a fraction of literature data for misorientation energies, reported data do not appear to possess these instabilities. Whether this is true for all experimental data remains to be determined. |
