||Microstructure, Defect and Mechanical Properties of Gamma TiAl Alloys Additively Manufactured by Selective Electron Beam Melting

In this work, Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb and Ti-45Al-7Al alloys were additively manufactured by SEBM. Several sets of parameters (layer thickness, average current of the electron beam, preheating temperature and melting scanning speed etc) have been modified in order to obtain a suitable material after EBM. The formation of various types of defects after SEBM was investigated with respect to different processing parameters. As a result, the as-built TiAl alloys achieved 99.28% of the theoretical density, and the only porosity determined from a micrograph consisted of few small spherical pores (diameter 20-50 μm). The microstructure of as built specimen is fairly homogeneous, consisted of fine equiaxed microstructure for Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb and fine lamellas microstructure for Ti-45Al-7Al, respectively. The vaporization of aluminum and mechanical properties were also discussed. In addition, not only test bars but also complex component such as turbine blades have been produced.
