| Abstract Scope |
High alumina dense brick backed by insulating fire brick are used as refractory linings of many high temperature furnaces in the process industry. In petroleum and petrochemical operations, this combination of brick has been the materials of choice for lining reaction furnaces in sulfur recovery units (SRU). In the now widely used O2-enriched SRU operations, lining of the reaction chamber must be designed to withstand temperatures approaching 1650°C with provisions for temperature upsets and thermal shocks. In this presentation details of the refractory lining design in terms of material and thickness of each layer, and installation and successful performance experience will be discussed. |
