Strontium-Aluminum alloy production was investigated by alumino-thermic reduction of strontium oxide (SrO) and strontium carbonate (SrCO3) in liquid aluminum. Industrial/Technical quality strontium carbonate with 99.5% purity was used and SrO was obtained by calcination of the strontium carbonate in lab scale rotary kiln furnace at 1100°C. SrO and SrCO3 powders were mixed with liquid aluminum at 1050-1150°C for 30, 60, 90 and 120 min time periods. Characterization of samples were carried out by optic emission spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy. The maximum strontium content in the alloy was reached as 2.5% in 120 min smelting.
