Wire-based metal additive manufacturing processes (i.e. arc and laser hot wire) have build envelopes exceeding 100 cu.ft. and sufficiently low operating costs to make steel structures economically viable. This presentation will cover examples and analysis of high-strength low-alloy steel and stainless steel components built with both processes. The effects of process and parameter selection on the components and the effects of macro-scale geometric effects on microstructure and anisotropy will be highlighted.
