| Abstract Scope |
Mo-Si-B based coatings have recently received increased interest due to their superior high-temperature oxidation resistance. One of the phase constituents, MoSi2, however is subject to accelerated oxidation ("pesting") at low temperature. To further enhance the oxidation resistance particularly at low to moderate temperature, we synthesized Al-doped Mo-Si-B based coatings by substituting part of Si with Al source powders during the Si+B co-pack cementation process. A simultaneous deposition of Al, Si and B using the appropriate activators is feasible due to the favorable gaseous thermodynamics and growth kinetics conditions. The simultaneous deposition also results in a number of new high-temperature oxidation resistant coatings such as a mixed coating comprised of B-doped silicides and aluminides.
