Symposium Phase Transformation Across Multiscale Material Interfaces
Presentation Title Efficient and Systematic Study of Phase Transformations Using Dual-anneal Diffusion Multiples

Abstract Scope Examples will be used to illustrate the effectiveness of dual-anneal diffusion-multiples (DADMs) in systematically studying phase transformations. Wide ranges of compositions of solid solutions are generated in diffusion multiples by a long-term, high-temperature anneal (heat treatment). Subsequent precipitation heat treatments at lower temperatures result in the formation of various precipitates across wide composition regions. Systematic examinations of phase precipitation morphologies as a function of time and temperature provide very valuable information on precipitation kinetics. The atlases of microstructures across the compositions can provide big, multimodal datasets on phase transformations to validate various model predictions. Interfacial energy can also be extracted from such DADMs by matching experimental measurements with modeling results.
