||LL-72: Failure Analysis of Steel Fasteners Used in Anchoring Details

In this study, failure analysis of four specimens having an original diameter of 24 mm of steel fasteners used in anchoring details has been performed. Failure observed during application of torque. Chemical, microstructural, and mechanical (tensile test, and hardness) properties of the fastener specimens have been determined. The obtained results are evaluated according to the ASTM F568M standart specification for carbon and alloy steel externally threaded metric fasteners, and discussed their availability for Class 8.8 fasteners. As a conclusion, unsuitableness to Class 8.8 for the studied steel fasteners indicates the importance of process-microstructure-property relationship.
