Corrosion study of type 316 SS was carried out using Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment(SMAT). Treatment times for impacting the ball of 3 mm were 20,40 and 60 min at 100 Hz.
The results shows that the reduction of grains size, increase of hardness and higher transformation of martensite were obtained with treatment time. Corrosion study shows that the pitting potential and passivation ranges were significantly decreased with time of treatment at 3 mm ball size.
