A summary of recent results from experimental studies on microstructure and mechanical properties of high burnup urania are discussed. The fuel specimens consisted of LEU oxide pellet that was irradiated in a commercial reactor in the united states for seven cycles at relatively low temperatures. Therefore, it is ripe for studying restructuring, its origins, and properties. Specific results on the evolution of fission gas before and after restructuring as well as mechanical properties (with focus on elastic modulus) in the nano-scale will be discussed.
