As the capacity of anode production system increased to 300~600kt/a, a large scale baking furnace should be designed for the system. With the furnace size increasing, how to achieve a more homogeneous anode quality and lower energy consumption level are the key points for technology developing. The furnace structure and process parameters optimization are carried out by numerical simulation model and laboratory research. Firing control system hardware and control strategies are optimized to fit the enlarger of furnace size. The first large scale baking furnace has been start up in 2015 at Sunstone Jiayuguan prebaked anode project phase 2. The capacity of the furnace is more than 340kt/a. It has achieved an average energy consumption 1.7GJ/t•anode and power consumption 37kWh/t•anode. The measured anode final baking temperature variation is less than ±20 °C.
