||Active Sites for Surface Exchange Reaction on Dual-phae-type Mixed Conductors

A composite of Sm-doped ceria(SDC) and CoFe2O4(CFO) has been attracting much attentions for use as an oxygen permeation membrane and a cathode for SOFC. This material shows an excellent oxygen transport property; however, an active site for surface exchange reaction, which is key information to further improve its oxygen transport property, is not understood well. In this study, an 18O isotope exchange depth profile (IEDP) technique was applied to determine its active sites for surface exchange reaction. 18O mapping and depth profile analysis suggest that triple phase boundaries of the SDC-CFO composites are active for the surface exchange reaction.
