| Abstract Scope |
A parametric study of laser and laser plasma interactions with zirconium and hafnium metal was completed in order to develop zirconium nitride and hafnium nitride coatings. The study determined optimum focal plane positions, beam power, travel speed, and gaseous atmospheric conditions to optimize the formation of continuous nitride film on a zirconium and hafnium substrate. These investigations built on previous work considering the role of laser-sustained plasma on titanium nitride formation. |
