||Mechanical Properties and Deformation Behavior of High-Mn Austenitic Steels with Fully Recrystallized Ultrafine Grained Structure

In our previous research, it was found that high-Mn austenitic steels with fully recrystallized ultrafine grains (UFG) of which mean grain sizes are about 400 nm could be fabricated without severe plastic deformation. The UFG materials showed high strength and large ductility, but the reason for such good mechanical properties is still unclear. In this study, we investigated mechanical properties and deformation behavior of the UFG high-Mn austenitic steels (so-called twinning-induced plasticity steels). Specimens having various ultrafine grain sizes were fabricated through thermomechanical processes developed by ourselves. Tensile tests under various conditions and microstructural characterization by SEM, EBSD and TEM were carried out for the UFG specimens.
