||OO-15: Effect of Dopants on Barium Calcium Zirconate Titanate Piezoelectric Ceramics

Lead free piezoelectric ceramics barium calcium zirconate titanate (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Zr0.1Ti0.9)O3 powders doped with various tetravalent dopants (Ce4+, Ge4+,Si4+,Mn4+) was prepared via sol-gel synthesis. The structural and microstructural properties of the doped and undoped BCZT ceramics was characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Calcination of the as-synthesized powders was carried at 1000°C while the sintering was performed at 1550°C, which resulted in densification greater than 92% for the BCZT compacts. Microstructures and piezoelectric properties of the ceramics were investigated especially, the effect of dopants on the sintering characteristics. Polarization vs Electric field measurements were carried out on the doped and undoped BCZT sintered pellets. The samples with the highest density were subjected to optimized electrical poling conditions and the piezoelectric properties (d33, g33, and kp) were measured. The structure and piezoelectric properties of doped BCZT were investigated and compared with undoped BCZT ceramics.
