||Investigation of Coal Tar Pitch Binder for the Production of Formed Coal Briquettes for COREX from High Volatile Coal Powder

Lump coal with high volatile is used for providing heat and reductive gas, and ensuring the permeability in COREX. However, due to the high pulverulent ratio of lump coal during transporting, it is significant to utilize coal powder pulverized from the lump coal to produce formed coal, but the molasses binder briquettes can not meet the technological requirements. In this paper, the processes of briquetting and carbonizing were considered. The results showed that BJ can activate the aromatic compounds and lowered the softening point of coal tar pitch. The carbonizations of coal and coal tar pitch caused obvious constriction and formed carbonized skeleton. The drop resistence of the wet briquettes using coal tar pitch binder reached over 50 times/1m. When cured at 1000℃ for 1h under nitrogen atmosphere, the compressive strength of carbonized briquettes reached 6.36 Mpa compared with 3.17 Mpa in the situation of molasses binder.
