Abstract Scope |
Generation of residual stresses during brazing of cemented carbide and steel using silver-based filler alloy was simulated using finite element analysis. Simulation was carried out for different process parameters, aiming to improve the experimental brazing process design. Residual shear stresses were found to be highest at the edges of the component as compared to the centre of the as-brazed assembly. Increase in the brazing temperature was found to result in higher stresses after cooling to room temperature. The magnitude and distribution of temperature and residual stresses were verified using thermocouple measurements and micro-hardness measurements respectively, and a good correlation was found between the simulated and experimental results. |
