| Abstract Scope |
The ferroelectric polymer materials have attracted the attention of researches due to their excellent optical and dielectric properties, low cost of processing and mechanical flexibility. Among to the ferroelectric polymers, can be cited the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), that have attracted interest in the area of photonics, because the possibility to be used as hosts for rare-earth ions. However, few works can be found in the literature about the study of the thermal and optical properties of the PVDF. In this work, PVDF samples were doped with Ce3+ to verify improvement in the optical fluorescence of the polymeric matrix, caused by incorporation of active ions. The measurements of FT-IR confirmed the incorporation of cerium in the polymeric matrix and the fluorescence measurements shown an increase in intensity, characteristic of the Ce photonic activity. In general, the optical measurements showed that PVDF is a potential candidate to be used in photonic devices. |
