||Investigation of Dynamic Mechanical Response in Al0.1CoCrFeNi High Entropy Alloy

Dynamic response of single phase fcc-based Al0.1CoCrFeNi high entropy alloy (HEA) is explored after subjecting to a variety of processing conditions. Comparison is made across a coarse-grained as-cast microstructure, pre-deformed microstructures after cold-rolling to 18% and 38% strain, as well as cold-rolled + annealed microstructures with extensive twinning and grain refinement. The annealing treatments conducted on both these cold-rolled materials are: 800 °C 1 hr, 700 °C 5hr, 620 °C 50hr, and 550 °C 24hr. Dynamic compression is performed on these specimens using a Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) at a strain rate of 1000 1/s, both parallel and perpendicular to the rolling directions. The dynamic flow stresses, their correlation to the microstructure, and the observed deformation modes will be presented.
