Abstract Scope Direct Molten Metal Write is a fused filament fabrication additive manufacturing method enabled by the reactive alloy chemistry. Molten bead stability is driven by oxide-stabilized surfaces, where molten metal filaments are deposited directly onto a build surface. The filaments solidify after deposition, retaining an intended shape and bonding with previously deposited layers of material. The current system uses electromagnetic induction to directly heat an alloy slug, while a mechanical plunger and constant force feedback loop control material extrusion rate. Induction heating allows for the use of low cost feedstock, while delivering enough energy to rapidly melt Al alloys. The current study involves direct writing of Al-Ce based alloys, oxide layer strength, interlayer bonding, microstructure development, print efficacy, and discusses important control systems involved in implementation of such devices
